Match 3 Stats vs. Cornell - Now Online!

Match 4 Stats vs. Wartburg - Now Online!

WAVERLY, Iowa-- You'll have to excuse Cobber head coach Tim Mosser if he wants to move Concordia College to Iowa. In the past two seasons, the Cobbers have posted an 8-0 record against Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams and have not lost a match in the prestigious Border Battle Tournament.

Mosser might also want to leave the MIAC and play all his regular season games as part of a tournament. That is due to the fact that Concordia has not lost a match in the last two seasons in six regular season tournaments. During that stretch the Cobbers have a 23-0 record.

With the four wins in the Border Battle Tournament, Concordia improves to 17-2 on the season and has won seven straight.

After beating Buena Vista and Central on the first day of the tournament, Concordia breezed past Cornell and host Wartburg on the final day of competition. The Cobbers beat the Rams in the first match of the day 3-1 (30-20, 27-30, 30-28, 30-15) and then swept the Knights 3-0 (33-31, 30-20, 30-23) in the final match of the tournament.

Despite posting a perfect 4-0 record, Concordia finished second in the tournament because of individual game victories. St. Ben's also went 4-0 but posted a game record of 12-2 as opposed to the Cobbers' 12-4 mark.

Concordia junior All-American Becca Shane was named to the All-Tournament Team. She had 58 kills in the four-match tourney, an average of 14.5 per match. She now has 235 kills on the season and 971 for her career. She needs 29 more kills to become the ninth player in program history to surpass the 1,000-kill mark.

In the Cobbers' first match against Cornell, Concordia rolled to an opening-game win by 10 points before falling in the second game 30-27. Tim Mosser's crew then rallied to win the final two games 30-28 and 30-15. Shane had a match-high 17 kills. Lindsay Sipma was the only other Concordia player to record double-digit kill totals.

The Cobber offense was once again led by the freshmen tandem of Jill Hance and Alyssa Dahl. Dahl had 21 assists and Hance had 20. The Concordia defense has also been led by a pair of players in the last few matches. Anna Walden had a team-high 23 digs, while Michelle Honek finished with 19. Honek also had eight service aces in the match.

In the second match of the day, and final of the tournament. Concordia wasted little time establishing their dominance at the net. The tightest game of the match occurred in the opener. Concordia was able to win the final points of the game to claim a 33-31 victory.

The final two games were less dramatic as Concordia claimed 30-20 and 30-23 wins.

Shane finished off the tournament with a team-high 15 kills. Honek posted 12 kills and a match-high 24 digs.

Hance and Dahl switched roles, with Hance leading the Cobbers with 23 assists and Dahl chipping in 21. The pair finished the tournament with 184 assists in the tournament and finished within two assists of one another. Hance led the team with 93 assists and Dahl had 91.

Walden completed the tournament with 22 digs. She posted dig totals in the 20's in all four tournament matches.

As a team, Concordia kept up their dominatin net defense. None of the Cobber foes had an attacking percentage of over .185 and three of the opponents hit under .090. Concordia also finished the tournament with 36.5 blocks.

The Cobbers return to MIAC play when they travel to Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00pm. Concordia will then return home to host Gustavus on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:00pm and St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:00pm.
