Hamline Match Statistics - Now Online! MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Concordia dispatched of Hamline in three straight games (30-17, 30-17, 31-29) and pushed its overall record to 13-2 and conference mark to 4-2. The Cobbers used a balance attack at the net to keep the Pipers from ever finding a rhythm. Concordia did not have a single player with double-digit kill totals but had five players with at least five kills in the game. Add the fact that three different Cobber players posted at least four blocks and it all adds up to a three-game sweep that took only 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. As a team, Concordia put up 16 blocks on the night and held Hamline to a .065 attacking percentage. The 16 blocks is a new program record for most blocks in a three-game match. The Cobbers entered the match with leading the MIAC in blocks and opponent's hitting percentage and it showed from the opening service. Concordia bolted to a 9-2 lead in game one and controlled the net for the remainder of the match. The second game was more of the same as the Cobbers built a 10-1 lead and grabbed its second straight 30-17 victory. The third game was almost a carbon copy of the first two, but unlike the first two, Hamline was able to rally and force Concordia to have to scramble at the end of the game to pick up the win. Leading 16-10, Concordia lost 11 of the next 16 points and watched as the game was tied at 21-21. Hamline then posted a game point at 29-28 before the Cobbers were able to win the next three points and claim the final game 31-29. Becca Shane and Lindsay Sipma each had a team-high nine kills for Concordia. Shane added to her league-leading block total, amassing four more on the night. Michelle Honek recorded seven kills, including the pivotal point that staved off game point in the third game. Jen Fodstad and Kristen Hokenstad were the final two players that had at least five kills. Fodstad had six kills and a match-high 13 digs, and Hokenstad finished with five kills and a match-high five blocks. Abby Scheel also had four blocks for the Cobbers. Jill Hance had a match-high 25 assists for Concordia. Hamline was led by Shelby Hyllengren. She had a match-high 10 kills and finished with an attacking percentage of .304. The Cobbers will turn its attention o regional play this weekend. They travel to Waverly, Iowa to play in the annual Minnesota/Iowa Border Battle Tournament on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8. Last year Concordia won the prestigious tournament and went on to participate in the NCAA playoffs. |
