St. Mary's Match Statistics

WINONA, Minn.-- Sometimes in life the little things mean the most. That was the case for Concordia in their 3-1 (30-17, 30-23, 28-30, 30-20) win over St. Mary's in Winona on Saturday.

On the surface, the Cobbers' victory does not appear to be of huge significance. Concordia entered the match ranked 16th in the latest AVCA national poll, while the Cardinals had lost three straight matches, all in three-game sweeps. The significance of the Concordia win comes in the realization that the Cobbers had not won a match on their only conference back-to-back road trip of the season since the 2002 season.

The Friday/Saturday swing started with a hard fought five-game loss at 13th-ranked Carleton on Friday. Coming off the heartbreaking loss, Concordia rallied to overcome history and post their second victory of the MIAC season. The Cobbers are now 2-2 in league play and 11-2 overall.

St. Mary's sees their losing streak reach four. They are 0-4 in the MIAC and 4-9 overall.

Concordia used a 17-7 run at the end of game one to cruise to a 30-17 victory.

The Cobbers pulled away in the middle of the second game to post a 30-23 win. After dropping the third game 30-28, Concordia came back to win game four 30-20 and gain the victory.

Becca Shane and Danielle Norby continue to be the front players for a dangerous attack. Shane had match-highs in kills (15) and service aces (3). Norby added 11 kills and six blocks.

Mackenzie Close had a solid match defensively at the net. She posted a season-high eight blocks. She also recorded eight kills. Michelle Honek and Emily Gilbertson led the Cobber dig crew. Honek had a team-high 17 digs and Gilbertson added 10. Honek had 41 digs over the two-match weekend and has finished with double-digit dig totals in three of the team's last six matches.

Jill Hance had 26 assists and Alyssa Dahl chipped in another 12.

Concordia will return home to host Macalester on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7:00pm.
