Match 4 Recap - Stats from Match 4

Moorhead, Minn.-- For the second straight year Concordia posted a 4-0 record in the Concordia Invitational and for the second straight season, the Cobbers waltzed away witt the tournament title.

In its final match of the invite, Concordia overpowered Northwestern College (Minn.) 3-1 (30-20, 26-30, 30-17, 30-28) and pushed its overall season record to 9-1. The Cobbers have now won four straight matches since dropping the conference opener to St. Thomas.

Concordia junior Becca Shane had her best outing of the tournament. She continually found space above, around and through the Eagles defense and finished with a match-high 16 kills. The most eye-opening stat of the match was Shane's final block total. She finished with 13 blocks in the four games. That is the second highest block total in a four-game match in program history. last year's super senio Jacki Barten amassed 16 blocks in Concordia's 3-1 win over Central College (Iowa) last season.

The biggest surprise of the tournament came from freshman Kristen Hokenstad. Used sparingly in the first three matches, Hokenstad posted career highs in kills (14) and blocks (5). She had 14 kills in 18 attack chances.

Danielle Norby was the third member of the team to finish with at least 10 kills. Norby had 10 kills and has posted double-digit kill totals in three of the team's last six matches.

Jill Hance and Alyssa Dahl calmly controlled the Cobber offense. Hance recorded 27 assists and finished the tournament with 84 helpers. Dahl came through with 16 assists.

Seven different Concordia players had at least one dig in the match. Dahl and Michelle Honek each finished with a team-high seven.

Concordia will return to MIAC play when they play at Augsburg on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7:00pm.
