Complete MIAC All-Conference Awards

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/09/06)-- Concordia senior middle hitter Becca Shane (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) was named the MIAC Most Valuable Player as announced by the league office on Wednesday. She joins teammates Danielle Dahl (Sr. Willmar, Minn.) and (Sr., Dickinson, N./D.) Lindsay Sipma as the Cobber representatives on the 2006 MIAC All-Conference Team. Concordia head coach Tim Mosser was named the MIAC Tri-Coach of the Year.

The three players and Mosser helped the Cobbers record a perfect 11-0 record in conference play. Concordia only had one match in the league go to the full five games. They also finished the regular season with a program-record 22-1 record and were ranked in the top 15 of the nation the entire season. Concordia has been ranked fourth in the AVCA Division III national poll for seven consecutive weeks. The Cobbers have also spent 32 consecutive weeks in the top 25 of the nation. That is an MIAC record for most consecutive weeks spent in the top 25 of the nation.

Shane is only the second Concordia player in the history of the program to eanr conference MVP honors. In 2004, Jessica Walden was named the MIAC MVP after leading the Cobbers to the MIAC Tournament championship. Shane is also only the second player in program history to earn all-conference honors in all four year.

Shane earns the league's highest honor after a career season. She led the MIAC in conference matches in blocks per game (1.37) and was third in kills per game (4.61) and fourth in hitting percentage (.342). In Concordia's 11 league matches, she had at least 10 kills in 10 matches and had over 20 kills in five of the 11 matches. She was named the MIAC Hitter of the Week on two occasions during the year.

For Dahl and Sipma it is their first time on the all-conference team. Dahl transferred to Concordia this season after playing her first three years at North Dakota State University. She came on and helped the Cobbers post the top front-line in the conference. Dahl had at least 10 kills in seven of the Cobbers' MIAC matches and finished second on the team in total kills (117) during conference play. She was third on the team in attack percentage (.285) and total blocks (33). She hit a season-best .343 at Macalester and came up with a season-high 17 kills in the team's final match of the regular season against St. Ben's.

Sipma also had a career year. She went from a role player to a big-time performer in 2006. She led the MIAC in attack percentage (.413) and was in the top three on the team in all the hitting statistical categories. She had five double-digit kill performances in league play and had a season-high 16 kills against St. Ben's. She finished the MIAC regular season with 108 kills and 23 blocks.

Mosser receives his second MIAC Coach of the Year honors in his storied 14 seasons as head coach of the Cobbers. Mosser is currently the winningest active coach in the MIAC and passed the 100-win total in conference matches during the 2006 season. He currently has a 106-49 (.684) mark in MIAC matches and a 266-169 (.611) record in overall matches.
