MOORHEAD, Minn. (09/18/06)-- Concordia added another chapter to its season of national-setting records on Monday. Senior middle hitter Becca Shane (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Player of the Week becoming the first player in program history, and one of only a handful from the MIAC, to earn the prestigious AVCA weekly honor.

The award caps a week where Concordia ascended to the No. 7 ranking in the AVCA DIII National Poll, the highest a Cobber team has ever been, and also defeated three teams ranked in the top 20 of the nation - a feat that has never been accomplished in the history of the program.

Shane helped the Cobbers post the three wins over teams ranked in the top 16 of the nation in a seven-day span. Concordia swept, then No.9-ranked, UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Sept. 9 and then last week CC downed No. 4-ranked St. Thomas 3-1 on the road and came home to beat No.16-ranked Carleton 3-1.

In her two matches last week, Shane averaged 5.9 kills per game, 1.9 blocks per game and hit a noteworthy .411. She also contributed seven digs and three service aces.

Shane currently leads the MIAC in kills (4.88/game), hitting percentage (.426) and blocks (1.50/game).

For her efforts she was also named the MIAC Hitter of the Week.
