MATCH RECAP:

MAYVILLE, N.D. (10/19/10)-- Don't ask any of the players on Concordia what Mayville, N.D. is like on a Tuesday, the Cobbers weren't there long enough to find out. Concordia made short work of Mayville State as they cruised to a 25-20, 25-9, 25-16 win at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

The win is the eighth straight for the Cobbers and brings their overall season record to 20-4. It marks the seventh time in the past nine seasons that Concordia has won at least 20 matches. It is also the second win over the Comets this season. CC beat Mayville State 3-0 in Moorhead on Sept. 7.

In a match that barely lasted an hour, the Cobbers found their stride at the end of the first game and then went on to win 50 of the final 75 points against Mayville State. Concordia eased to a 25-9 win in the second game and then closed out the Comets 25-16 in the final game. The Cobbers were able to use all 15 players on the roster in the match and nine had at least one kill.

The frontline duo of Katie Vohnoutka and Jenna Green once again overwhelmed an opponent. The pair combined for 23 kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Vohnoutka led all players with 13 kills. The 13 winners put Vohnoutka over the 300-kill mark for the season. It is the first time in her career she has had more than 300 kills in a single year. She now has 827 for her career. Green posted another double-digit kill match. She finished with 10 winners and now has had at least 10 kills in 18 of the 24 matches.

Amy Sykora and Danelle Loomis shared the setter duties for the match. Sykora had a team-high 22 assists and Loomis kicked in another 13 helpers.

Concordia has four MIAC matches left in the regular season and will face their toughest test this weekend when they play at Gustavus on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Northfield to square off with No.12-ranked St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
