MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/23/09)--
Concordia wasn't able to capitalize on a pair of game points in the first game of the match against Gustavus, was never able to recover and lost 3-0 (29-27, 25-16, 25-20) to the Gusties in Moorhead on Friday. The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers and drops their conference record to 5-4. After starting the MIAC at 5-1, CC is now fighting for a spot in the six-team conference tournament. The close loss in game 1 took all the life out of the Cobbers' play as they stumbled to a 25-16 loss in the second game and then couldn't quite take control of game 3 and lost 25-20. Beseman led Concordia in kills with nine. Katie Vohnoutka had seven kills and nine digs while Rachel Wiinanen came away with a team-high 12 digs. The Cobbers split the setter spot with Amy Sykora getting 14 assists and Danelle Loomis adding 13. Gustavus frontline player Angela Ahrendt led all players with 13 kills. She was joined by Olivia Warren as the only two GAC players with more than seven winners. Warren finished with 12 kills. Emily Phillips had a match-high 20 digs and Maela Noenning chipped in 37 assists. As a team Concordia hit a meager .090 for the match. That included 25 attack errors and 37 kills. Gustavus hit .213 and did not have an attack percentage below .196 in all three games. Concordia will hope to put an end to their losing streak when they host Hamline on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
