Cobber sophomore setter Amy Sykora had a career-high 51 assists in Concordia's dramatic 3-2 rally win over Carleton on Friday.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/09/09)-- Concordia needed to stage its most dramatic comeback of the season on Friday in Northfield. The No.19-ranked Cobbers lost the first two games against the Knights but then came roaring back to win three straight and win 3-2 (22-25, 16, 25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-11). The win is the fourth straight for Concordia and moves their overall record 11-5. CC is now 4-1 in the MIAC.

Carleton (12-7, 2-4) won the back-and-forth first game 25-22. It was a game that featured four lead changes and 11 tie scores. The tough loss in the opener took the wind out of the sails of the Cobbers and they stumbled through game two, losing 25-16. Concordia continued to struggle at the beginning of the third game but then a couple of kills from Jenna Green and Ashley Beseman turned a narrow 6-5 lead into a commanding 15-6 advantage. The 9-1 run pumped up Concordia and let them cruise to a 25-13 win the game. The Knights held strong in the fourth game but Concordia used another forceful run to claim the win. With the score tied at 13-13, the Cobbers won six straight points to grab a lead they would never relinquish although the Knights did cut the margin to a pair of points at 19-17.

In the fifth, and deciding, game. Concordia stormed out of the gates by winning nine of the first ten points and then holding off a late Carleton rally. The Cobbers had three match points at 14-8 that the Knights dodged before a Knight attack error gave Concordia the game and the match.

Sophomore Amy Sykora led the Cobbers with a career-high 51 assists. She also had 11 digs and was one of three Concordia players to post double-digit dig totals. Green had 15 digs to go along with 14 kills and a season-high six blocks. Greta Wood had a team-high 18 digs. Katie Vohnoutka matched Green's 14 kills and also added two blocks. Senior Dana Wermers had her most productive match of the year as she finished with 12 kills and five blocks. Like Green, Beseman also had six blocks and chipped in eight kills.

Concordia will finish their conference weekend road trip when they play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m.
