ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/23/09)-- It wasn't a thing of beauty but it was still a conference road win and that is all that matters as No.17-ranked Concordia held off pesky St. Kate's 3-2 in St. Paul on Wednesday. The Cobbers cruised to wins in the first two games but then had to rattle off nine of the final 12 points in game 5 to earn the victory.

With the win, Concordia moves to 6-3 overall and remains unbeaten in the MIAC at 2-0. The Cobbers learned earlier in the day that their loss against Jamestown has been deleted from the books because the teams used NAIA substitution rules. The Wildcats are now 11-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

For the match the Cobbers hit .203 as compared to .184 for St. Kate's. Concordia came away with 58 kills while the Wildcats had one less at 57. Both teams had 51 assists on the night and CSC held an 88-84 edge in total digs.

Concordia had three players with at least 10 kills on the night.
Jenna Green had a team-high 15 kills to go along with 18 digs. Green has now posted double-digit kill totals in seven of the last eight matches and double-digit dig totals in six of the last eight contests. Fellow sophomore Katie Vohnoutka had 13 kills and had a team-high four blocks. Leslie Olson had a career-high 21 digs for CC. She also added 11 kills.

Amy Sykora had a season-high 46 assists. That total is also a career high for the sophomore. Ashley Beseman had a team-high .471 hitting percentage as she had nine kills and only one error in 17 attack chances. Dana Wermers added seven kills to give the Cobbers five players with at least seven kills in the match.

Concordia will return home to host No.6-ranked St. Thomas on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m.
