Match Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/05/09)-- Concordia capped another perfect Cobber Invite by beating Mayville State 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) on Saturday. The Cobbers cruised to their fourth Cobber Invite in the past five years. In their three matches in this year's Invite, Concordia lost only one game.

Concordia has now won three straight and is now 3-1 on the season. Mayville State went 1-2 at the Invite and is now 4-7 for the season.

Concordia had five players with at least seven kills against the Comets. Sophomore Katie Vohnoutka had a match-high 18 kills for the Cobbers. It is the second highest kill total in her career. She had 19 winners against Gustavus last year. Fellow sophomore Jenna Green had 11 kills in the match and finished the tournament with 30 kills. Ashley Beseman added nine kills, Leslie Olson had eight kills and Jaci Heath provided seven to give the all-sophomore quintet 53 of the team's 57 kills for the match.

The Cobbers also had four players double-digit dig totals. Vohnoutka had 18 digs to go along with her 18 kills. Green had 15, Olson chipped in 13 and Greta Wood added 11. Freshman Danelle Loomis had a team-high 24 assists and teammate Amy Sykora finished with 20 helpers.

Vohnoutka, Green and Beseman were named to the Cobber Invite All-Tournament Team. Green was also named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Concordia will hope to continue its tournament success when they play at the Washington Univ. (Mo.) Invite on Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12. The Cobbers will play four opponents who are all ranked in the top 15 of the nation.
