MATCH RECAP:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/04/08)--For the second time in the past four seasons Concordia finished in fourth place in the MIAC regular season standings and then lost to fifth-seeded St. Olaf at home in the quarterfinals of the MIAC playoffs. On Tuesday the Cobbers stumbled out of the gate, dropping the first two sets against the Oles, had to rally to win the next two but in the end fell in the fifth set. The loss puts Concordia's NCAA Tournament aspirations on hold as they will have to wait until Sunday to see if they receive an at-large bid.

CC is now 20-5 on the season. St. Olaf pulls off the upset and moves to 21-11 on the year.

The biggest factor in the match was the hitting of St. Olaf sophmore outside hitter Kim Smisek and the error-prone Concordia offensive attack. Smisek finished with a match-high 21 kills. It marked the fifth time this season she has had at least 20 kills in a match. As a team the Cobbers had 35 attack errors and hit .148 for the match. St. Olaf had only 17 hitting errors and finished with a kill percentage of .213.

Concordia was led by freshman Jenna Green who had 15 kills and 20 digs. Abby Scheel had 14 blocks and had a team-high .258 attack percentage. Anna Tinkham had 32 digs and Amy Sykora finished with 38 assists.

Besides Smisek, the Oles had two other players in double figures in kill totals. Paige Olson had 12 kills and Jane Meyer added 10 winners. Kelly Prunty led the offense with 47 assists and Alyssa Williams came away with a match-high 35 digs.
