| MATCH RECAP:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/01/08)--In the Concordia volleyball new math system 5=4. As in five sets = fourth place. The Cobbers dropped another five-set match against a nationally ranked team and in the process fell to fourth place in the final MIAC standings. The new math equation means that Concordia will host St. Olaf in the first round of the MIAC playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
For the second time in the past four matches, Concordia fell behind two sets to none to a nationally ranked opponent, rallied to tie the score at 2-2 before finally losing in the fifth set. On Saturday, the Cobbers were edged by No.23-ranked St. Ben's 3-2 (20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-9) and fell to 20-4 overall and 8-3 in the conference. The Blazers secure the third seed for the upcoming conference playoffs and move to 26-5 in all matches and 9-2 in league play.
Concordia had a hard time at the net all match long. The Cobbers finished with a hitting percentage of .085, their second worst hitting percentage of the season. The low points came in the first and fifth sets where CC hit -.50 in the opener and an even .000 in the finale. The Blazers hit .167 for the match but they earned the win by hitting .321 in the fifth set. St. Ben's had 74 kills as opposed to only 42 for the Cobbers.
Concordia was led by Jenna Green who had 10 kills and was the only CC player with double-digit kill totals. She also had 17 digs and hit .021 for the match. Anna Tinkham had a match-high 31 digs for CC and produced three service aces. As a team, Concordia had 9.0 team blocks and was led by Abby Scheel who had two solo blocks and ended the match with five total blocks.
The Cobbers will now turn their attention to the MIAC playoff when they host the Oles on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
