| MATCH RECAP:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/03/08)--The Concordia and St. Olaf MIAC volleyball match came down to the final six points in the fifth and final set. Good thing for the Cobbers as they were able to rattle off the first three of those points and then close out the Oles by winning four of the final six points to take a 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-13) win on Friday in Moorhead.
The two teams traded sets before Concordia was able to pull away at the end of the fifth set to claim their 10th overall victory on the season. The 10 wins marks the 15th consecutive season that the Cobbers have posted at least 10 wins in a season. The win is also the second straight league victory and pushes CC's record to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC. St. Olaf loses their second straight five-set match to a nationally ranked opponent. The Oles also lose for the fifth straight time and fall to 12-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Cobbers had four players with double-digit kill totals. They were led by freshman Jenna Green who had 14 kills in the match and surpassed the 100-kill mark for the season. She now has 109 kills on the year and has had at least 10 kills in five matches in 2008. Green also had 17 digs also marking the fifth time this year she has posted double-digit dig totals. Joining Green with at least 10 kills were Maggie Olson, Abby Scheel and Dana Wermers. Olson and Scheel had 12 kills each and Wermers added 10. For Olson and Scheel it was a season high in kills. Senior Jill Hance led the offense with 31 assists and Anna Tinkham had a match-high 31 digs. The 31 digs for Tinkham represent a season high and marks the eighth time in her career that she has recorded at least 30 digs in a match.
As a team Concordia hit .223 for the match and had 66 kills as opposed to 52 for the Oles. St. Olaf had an attack percentage of .169. Both teams had a hard time serving the ball thorughout the match. The two squads combined for 24 service errors. Concordia had 13 service miscues and the Oles added 11 on their side of the net.
St. Olaf was led on offense by Jessica Levin who came away with 16 kills. Kim Smisek added another 15 as the two combined for 31 of the team's 52 kills in the match. Smisek also had 18 digs. Kelly Prunty led all players with 42 assists and Alyssa Williams had a team-high 21 digs.
Concordia will turn around and host St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
