| MATCH RECAP:
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (09/03/08)--It only goes to reason that having a young team will lead to many learning experiences. Chalk up Wednesday night's match at Valley City as one of the first learning experiences for the youthful Cobbers. For the first time this season, Concordia went on the road and for the first time in 2008 their opponent pushed back. CC was able to withstand the pressure from the home Vikings and squeak out a 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12) victory. The win keeps the Cobbers perfect in 2008 as they move to 3-0. Valley City is now 3-6 on the season.
Playing before their first home crowd of the year, the Vikings were energized from the very first point. CC was able to pull away at the end of the first set and grabbed a 1-0 lead. Valley City then took the second game 27-25 before Concordia retook the lead with a 25-22 win in set No. 3. The Cobbers looked to have the match in hand in the fourth set but then VCSU came roaring back and pulled out a 25-21 win. In the fifth, and final, set, Concordia went out to an 8-4 lead to take control at the onset. From there they were able to hold off the Vikings and snatch out a 15-12 win.
Concordia freshman Jenna Green led the team with 14 kills. She was the only CC player that posted double digit kill totals for the match. Valerie Glynn added nine kills and setter Jill Hance had seven. Hance also had a match-high 40 assists, while fellow senior Anna Tinkham came away with a team-high 21 digs.
Concordia will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host Jamestown College at 7 p.m.
