| MATCH RECAP:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (08/29/08)--Concordia finished off the first day of the 2008 season in style as they posted their second sweep of the day, beating Presentation 25-14, 25-19, 25-9. The Cobbers used a superior front line attack to sweep the overmatched Saints. The win helps CC win the abbreviated Concordia Invite. It is the fourth time in the past five years that the Cobbers have claimed the title in their own tournament.
After sweeping UW-Stevens Point in the first match, Concordia used their entire 14-player roster to blast past Presentation. Of the 14 players that played, 12 had kills and the two that did not post a kills combined for 23 digs. CC used their younger players for most of the second and third sets as they improved to 2-0 on the year.
Concordia sophomore Valerie Glynn led the charge for the dominant CC front line. She had 10 kills in the match, only the second time in her career that she has posted double-digit kill totals and one shy of her career mark of 11. Glynn finished the match with an attack percentage of .833. She also had one block and three digs and was one of three Cobber players named to the All-Tournament Team. Joining Glynn on the All-Tournament Team were teammates Jill Hance and Jenna Green. Hance backed up her nine service-ace performance in the opener with 11 assists - all in the first set - and an uncharacteristic three kills. Green had seven kills in the match and came up with several thunderbolts that were unreturnable. Green also backed up her offensive fireworks with 10 digs on the defensive end. Freshman setter Amy Sykora settled into her first match by coming off the bench and posting a match-high 29 assists. She made only two errors in the match and also added eight digs.
As a team Concordia hit .292 for the match and had 48 kills as compared to only 12 for the Saints. The Cobber defense also held Presentation's front line players to a -.010 attack percentage. It is the first time since the 2005 season that the CC defense has held an opponent to a negative attack percentage - a span that covers 75 matches.
Next up for Concordia is a road match at Valley City State on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
