MATCH RECAP:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/20/07)-- The best thing to do after a day like the Cobbers had on Saturday is to focus on the bright spots. Concordia was never able to find a rhythm on offense, couldn't come up with consistent blocks on defense and was swept by Carleton 30-20, 30-21, 30-27. The bright spot came from junior Anna Tinkham who had 14 digs in the match and broke the school record for digs in a single season. Tinkham's 14 digs pushes her season total to 468, which is 10 more than the previous school record of 458 set by Rhiannon Grimm in 2003.

The loss snaps Concordia's six-match conference winning streak and adds a little more drama to the MIAC conference race for second through fourth place. The defeat drops the Cobbers to 7-2 in conference play. They are currently tied for second place with St. Ben's, who lost 3-2 to Gustavus on Saturday. Carleton improves to 6-3 in the conference and is now tied for fourth place with Bethel. CC is now 15-6 overall and the Knights up their overall mark to 18-3.

Concordia did not have a single player reach double digits in kill totals. In the three games, the Cobbers posted only 44 kills and had a .184 attack percentage, as opposed to 55 kills and a .255 attack percentage for Carleton. Both teams had eight blocks in the match but the Knights were able to come up with 79 digs, while CC could only come up with 65 digs.

Sophomore Dana Wermers, seeing extended playing time due to the absence of sophomore Angie Bonde, led Concordia with nine kills. Abby Scheel added eight kills and had a match-high six blocks. Michelle Honek was one of three Cobber players with six kills on the afternoon. She had six kills and a team-high 20 digs. Jill Hance had 25 assists to pace the CC offense. She also had two service aces in the match.

Carleton had three players with more than nine kills. Samantha Hendricks had a match-high 18 kills, while Megan La Chapelle had 12 and Sarah Kunelius added 10. Laura Barsness had a match-high 21 digs for the Knights and Heather La Chapelle had 44 assists.

Concordia will look to get back on the winning track when they host Bethel in a critical MIAC match-up on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The Cobbers will then finish off the regular season by playing at St. Ben's on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
