| MATCH RECAP:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/22/07)--Concordia put the team bus on cruise control and rolled past Macalester 3-0 (30-17, 30-24, 30-20) in Moorhead on Saturday.
The Cobbers played all 14 players on their roster as they snapped their one-match losing skid. CC has not lost consecutive matches since the end of the 2005 season. With the win, Concordia runs their overall record to 7-4 and their conference mark to 2-1. It is also the seventh straight win over the Scots. Macalester loses for the fifth straight time and is now 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC.
Concordia took control over the steering wheel early in the first game as they turned a one-point advantage at 3-2 into a lopsided 18-4 lead by going on a 15-2 run. CC then coated to a 30-17 win in the opener, holding the Scots to a -.158 hitting percentage in the game.
Substituting freely at the start of the second game, it took the Cobbers half of the game to find the right mix of personnel. With the game tied at 14-14, CC went on an 8-1 run to reestablish control of the match. The new players finally found a rhythm and the Cobbers finished out the second game at 30-24.
The third game was more of the same. CC bolted to a 12-4 lead and then hung on to win by 10 points at 30-20.
For the match, Concordia's defense held Macalester to a .032 hitting percentage. The Cobbers also had eight blocks in the match. On offense, CC came away with a .204 attack percentage which was highlighted by a match-high .312 percentage in game No.1.
Individually, 10 different players had at least two kills in the match. Senior Michelle Honek was the stat leader for the team, coming away with eight kills and 14 digs. She narrowly edged sophomore Erin Sykora who had seven kills to go along with nine digs. Anna Tinkham and Allie Burnside led the defense from the backline. Tinkham had a team-high 17 digs and Burnside finished with 16. Junior Jill Hance recorded a team-high 18 assists.
Macalester was led by Marie Godwin who had a team-high 10 kills and 14 digs. Kiera Coulter had a match-high 28 digs and Kari Tanaka had 21 assists in the losing effort.
Concordia's next match will be at St. Olaf on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. They will turn around and play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 29 a 3 p.m.
