MATCHDAY RECAP:

DAY 2
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (9/08/07)--Concordia finished the Washington University with a perfectly even record. The Cobbers split their matches on the second day and finished with a 2-2 record at the prestigious tournament. During the four matches the Cobbers also had an even 7-7 record in games played.

Concordia defeated regional foe Central 3-1 (30-22, 30-26, 27-30, 30-18) in the opening match of the second day and then fell 3-1 (30-26, 31-29, 28-30, 30-23) to No.4-ranked Washington University. The Cobbers suffered both of their losses in the tournament at the hands of teams that are ranked in the top four of the nation. The two CC victories came against the No.15-ranked team in the nation and a team that will factor in the regional rankings through the end of the season.

The successful second day started by Concordia taking command of the Central match in the first game. Concordia pulled away to win by eight in the opening game and then claimed the pivotal second game before dropping the third. CC made sure the match wouldn't go to five games by putting away the Dutch in the fourth game 30-18.

For the match, the Cobber outside attack tandem of Michelle Honek and Angie Bonde combined to knock down 33 of the team's 55 kills in the game. Honek had a team-high 17 kills to go along with 22 digs. Bonde put up 16 kills and had 19 digs. Alyssa Dahl came away with 38 assists and Anna Tinkham recorded a team-high 31 digs. The middle blocking duo of Abby Scheel and Valerie Glynn had 15 blocks. Scheel led the Cobbers with two solo blocks and six block assists. Glynn was right behind with four solo blocks and three block assists. As a team, the Concordia defense had seven solo blocks and 18 block assists.

In the final game of the tournament, Concordia was never able to break down the Wash. U. defense and fell 3-1. Both of the first two games were settled in the final points. The Cobbers lost both games by a total of six points and had an opportunity to turn the tables on the Bears. CC then rallied in the end of game three to win 30-28. Wash U. settled the fourth, and final, game by pulling away in the late teens.

Honek had a career-high 24 kills and posted 64 kills for the four-match tournament. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also garnered All-Tournament honors at the Cobber Invite last weekend. Honek also had 18 digs and two blocks against the Bears. Honek was joined on the All-Tournament Team by junior setter Alyssa Dahl. Dahl had 32 assists against Wash. U. and finished the invite with 128 helpers. It is also her second straight weekend to receive All-Tournament honors.

Sophomore Maggie Olson had the best match of her young collegiate career. She had 12 kills and two assists in the four-game match. Anna Tinkham had 33 digs in the match and finished the tournament with 99 digs.

The Cobber will open MIAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they host St. Kate's at 7 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium. The game can be seen live on the internet at: www.cord.edu/dept/sports/broadcast.php and will also feature live stats.
