Complete 2007 MIAC All-Conference Awards


MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/31/07)-- A trio of Concordia volleyball players earned MIAC postseason awards it was announced by the MIAC league office on Wednesday. Senior Michelle Honek (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS) and junior Abby Scheel (Fergus Falls, Minn./Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) were name to the MIAC All-Conference Team, while junior Anna Tinkham (Fisher , Minn.) was named the MIAC Tri-Defensive Player of the Year. Honek was also named the squad's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. It is the first postseason award for all three players.

Honek led the Cobbers in kills in 2007 and was sixth in the MIAC in kills in overall matches during the regular season. Honek finished the regular season with a career-high 345 kills and has 933 kills for her career. In the team's 11 conference matches this season, Honek had 134 kills and posted double-digit kill totals in eight of those matches. She had a season-high 20 kills against St. Mary's on Sept. 29.

During the season Honek set the school record for digs in a career. She currently has 391 digs on the season and 1,259 for her career. She also had 174 digs during MIAC competition and had at least 10 digs in all 11 matches. Honek was named the MIAC Co-Hitter of the Week on Oct. 29.

Scheel was the main part of the Cobber defensive force at the net. She helped the team finish second in the conference in blocks per game (2.60) and fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.140). Scheel led the team in blocks during the regular season with 98 and was eighth in the MIAC in blocks per game (1.09). She had at least one block in every league match in 2007 and had a career-high nine blocks against St. Mary's on Sept. 29. Scheel was also third on the team in kills in conference play and had a season-high 10 kills against Augsburg on Oct. 3.

Tinkham was the team's defensive specialist and one of the team's vocal leaders on the court. She set the school record for digs in a single season on Oct. 20 against Carleton and continues to add to her total. She now has 548 digs for the year. In conference play, Tinkham had 236 digs and was second in the conference in digs per game (6.94). She also led the league in service aces (24) and was in the top three in passing percentage. Tinkham had at least 10 digs in all 11 conference matches and had at least 15 digs in eight of those contests. She had a career-high 39 digs against Gustavus on Oct. 19 and has had at least 20 digs in four of the team's past five matches.
