(11/9/06)-- It wasn't pretty, but in the end, the Cobbers beat Beloit College 3-1 (30-17, 30-28, 27-30, 30-25) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Eau Claire, Wis. to advance to the second round of the Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 10 against the winner of the UW-Eau Claire/Carthage match. The win is the 18th straight for the Cobbers who push their record to 25-1 on the season. It also helps Concordia advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the past four years. Beloit loses for the first time in the past seven matches and ends their season with a 21-9 overall record. They were making their first appearance in the national playoffs. The Cobbers beat the Buccaneers on the strength of an impressive first game and the depth of their overall attack. Concordia had three players finish the match with double-digit kill totals and had another post nine kills on the night. Danielle Dahl led the attack with 17 kills and fellow senior Becca Shane added 15. Michelle Honek had 11 kills and 14 digs to record her 14th double-double of the season and seventh in the past eight matches. Lindsay Sipma added nine kills in critical times throughout the match. Shane continues to inch her way to the top of four school records. With her 15 kills in the match, she now has 1,506 kills for her career and needs 33 more to break the career kill mark of 1,538 held by Laura Reitmeier (1995-98). Shane now has 505 total blocks in her career and needs only six more to pass Jacki Barten (2001-04) as the school's all-time block leader. Shane is also knocking on the door of the program record for solo blocks and block assists in a career. She did not have a solo block against the Buccaneers and still needs four more to pass Reitmeier. Finally, she added a pair of block assists and stands at 363 career block assists. She now needs 11 to pass Barten. Alyssa Dahl captained the Cobber offense for much of the match. She recorded a team-high 27 assists. She was joined by Jill Hance who added 23. As a team, Concordia had 65 kills in the match and finished with an attack percentage of .262. They started the match by hitting .419 in their opening-game 30-17 victory. They then hit in the .100's for the next two games but then hit .342 in the fourth game to close out the match. Anna Walden had a match-high 25 digs for the Cobber defense who limited Beloit to a .050 hitting percentage in the first game but then watches as the total grew throughout the match. The Buccaneers finished with an attack percentage of .195. Beloit also had three players with at least 12 kills. They were led by Megan Maure and Alli Thomson who both had 13 kills. Maure also had a team-high 19 digs. Katie Algrem posted a match-high 43 kills in the losing effort.
