MATCH RECAP:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/4/06)-- It was only fitting that on a day when the Concordia women's soccer team went to a penalty kick shootout to win the MIAC playoff championship, the Cobber volleyball team would go all the way until the end of the fifth game to earn their league tournament title.

The volleyball drama queens used the strength of senior Danielle Dahl's record-setting 31 kills to beat the Blazers 3-2 (30-14, 23-30, 24-30, 30-17, 15-11) and capture their third MIAC Tournament title in the past four years. With the victory they earn their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Concordia has now won 17 straight matches and is currently 24-1 on the season. They will have to wait until Monday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. (est) to find out where they will play in the national playoffs.

St. Ben's has their surprising run in the MIAC playoffs come to an end and they finish the season with a 15-13 overall record. The No.6-seeded Blazers had beaten No.3-seed Carleton and No.2-seed Gustavus to earn a spot in the conference championship match.

Dahl broke Stacy Davis' single-match kill record of 30 on the final point of the match as she slammed home the winner to give the Cobbers the come-from-behind victory. The kill was Dahl's 31st of the match as she proved to be the difference-maker in a match that could have gone either way. Dahl also finished with an attack percentage of .490.

For her two-match performance in the tournament where she totaled 43 kills, Dahl was named to the MIAC All-Tournament Team. She was joined by fellow senior Becca Shane as the team's two representatives on the six-player squad.

As a team, Concordia came away with 73 kills which is a season high and is the most winners in a game since the 2004 season. The Cobbers hit .205 for the match. That included game totals of .100 and .062 in the two games they lost and .267, .381 and .257 in the three games they won.

Besides Dahl, Shane and Michelle Honek also had double-digit kill totals. Shane finished with 15 kills and three combined blocks, while Honek added her usual 11 kills and 26 digs. It was the 13th double-double of the season for Honek who now has had at least 10 kills and 10 digs in six of the last seven matches.

Anna Walden matched St. Ben's All-MIAC defensive specialist Laura Zwach dig-for-dig. Walden used a page out of Zwach's book as she chased down any Blazer would-be kill attempt and neatly passed the ball to the Cobber setters. Walden had a match-high 37 digs. That total is also a career high for the senior.

Jill Hance had a team-high 33 assists but the biggest impact in the Cobber offense was made by Alyssa Dahl who came off the bench and had 22 assists - many of which found her sister on the right side of the attack.

Teri Knapper was the only St. Ben's player with more than nine kills in the match. Knapper finished with 17 kills and hit .250. Zwach came away with 30 digs and teammate Beth Hanson added a match-high 41 assists. Both Knapper and Zwach were named to the MIAC All-Tournament Team.

The Blazers hit .098 in the match and had 51 total kills.
