#4 Concordia recorded 15 total team blocks in its 30-26, 30-28, 30-16 sweep over Macalester on Wednesday night. The Cobbers are now 5-0 in the MIAC and 12-1 overall.

MATCH RECAP:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (09/27/06)-- The Concordia defense decided to step up and take center stage against Macalester on Wednesday night in St. Paul. The Cobbers combined for 15 total team blocks in the three-game sweep over the Scots and walked away with a 30-26,  30-28, 30-16 victory.

The win keeps the Cobbers' conference record perfect at 5-0, while their overall mark improves to a robust 12-1. CC has now won five straight matches and is tied atop the conference standings with Gustavus who is also 5-0.

The Scots drop their second straight match and watch as their league record tumbles to 2-3 on the season. Macalester is now 7-6 overall.

Concordia had three players that all posted at least six blocks in the match and had two more with three blocks. Senior Becca Shane led the block party with nine blocks. She now has 70 blocks on the season and leads the MIAC. Fellow senior Lindsay Sipma had six blocks. The two were joined by sophomore Abby Scheel who also had a half dozen blocks. Danielle Dahl and Angie Bonde contributed three blocks each.

Shane led the up-and-down Concordia offense with 11 kills. She had two attack errors, finished with a hitting percentage of .333 and had three service aces.

As a team, Concordia took advantage of the Scots defense and combined for eight service winners.

Michelle Honek added nine kills to go along with 12 digs and Danielle Dahl chipped in another eight kills.

Anna Walden had a match-high 13 digs. The setter tandem of Alyssa Dahl and Katlin Anderson combined for 28 assists and five service aces. Dahl had 15 helpers and three service aces, while Anderson added 13 assists and two service aces.

Concordia will have the weekend off before returning to action against the upstart Hamline Pipers. The Cobbers will play at Hamline on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
