MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/29/06)-- Concordia-Moorhead Athletics Director Dr. Larry Papenfuss has announced that Dan Weiler has been named the new head men’s soccer coach. Weiler, who has been the head women’s coach at the college for the past five seasons, will now coach both teams during the fall season. “It is a tremendous benefit when our head coaches are able to be on campus on a full-time basis,” commented Papenfuss. “This was an excellent opportunity to upgrade the soccer positions to fall in line with that strategy. I am excited that both teams will now have a coach that is solely on the athletics staff.” Weiler has been the architect behind the rise of the Cobber women’s soccer team from a perennial middle of the road team in the MIAC to winning both the regular-season and playoff championships in 2006. The team also earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2006. In his five seasons at the helm of the women’s team he has amassed a 56-35-6 overall record and an impressive 38-14-3 mark in conference play. He has guided Concordia to four straight MIAC playoff appearances and has recorded 10-win seasons in each of the past four years. “I am very excited about the opportunity to coach the men’s team,” stated Weiler. “I am confident in my ability to organize, teach and recruit the game at a high level for both teams and think that the men’s team has a chance to return to the top of the MIAC as it was in the mid 1990’s.” The Concordia men’s team won back-to-back conference championships in 1995 and 1996 and earned an NCAA Tournament berth in 1996 where they made it all the way to the regional final.
