MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/21/06)-- Concordia-Moorhead head men’s soccer coach Dan Weiler has announced that former Fargo Shanley boys’ high school coach Kevin Roos has been named assistant coach for the Cobber men’s soccer team effective immediately. Roos, who helped the Deacons to a berth in the North Dakota State Tournament this year, will assist Weiler on the men’s side after Weiler was named the head men’s soccer coach in November. Roos will continue to coach the Shanley girls’ soccer team and serve as a teacher at Sullivan Middle School in Fargo, N.D.
Roos played for the Cobbers from 1998-2001 and graduated from Concordia with a degree in Physical Education in 2002. During his playing years with the Cobbers, he scored eight goals and had 11 assists and was named the MIAC Player of the Week in his junior season. Roos brings a solid foundation of soccer knowledge and a tremendous passion for the game. “Kevin’s work ethic and his ability to relate to the student-athlete will make him a perfect role model for the players and will give the program an outstanding teacher and coach,” commented Weiler.
Roos was the head boys’ coach at Fargo Shanley for the past five seasons. During that time he helped the Deacons develop into one of the top teams in the state of North Dakota. Roos guided Shanley to winning records in the past two seasons, the first since the 2000 campaign. In 2005 Roos was named the EDC Boys’ Coach of the Year. He was also named the North Dakota Girls’ Coach of the Year in the spring of 2006.
