St. Olaf Game Statistics | Action Pictures

MOORHEAD, Minn.-- One streak ended and another stayed intact as Concordia lost 3-1 to St. Olaf at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex on Saturday.

The Cobbers snapped their scoreless streak with a picture-perfect goal midway through the second half. The string of scoreless minutes had reached 357 when Sylvester Ndhlovu headed home a perfectly crossed ball from David Long to tie the score at 1-1. For Ndhlovu, it was his team-leading third goal of the year.

Unfortunately for Concordia, the game was decided with less than five minutes to go when Jacob Meyer slotted home a ball to give the Oles the 2-1 lead. For Meyer it was his fourth goal of the season and proved to be his fourth game-winning goal of the season as well.

The goal sent the Cobbers to their fourth straight loss.

The game took a turn towards the bizarre side just before the final whistle. With less than a minute to play, and St. Olaf clinging to the one-goal advantage, one of the Ole players tried to make pass to his teammate in the middle of the field out on the wing. The pass was struck too hard and it appeared to be headed out of bounds, unfortunately for Concordia the ball struck the linesman and ricocheted back into the the field of play. St. Olaf attacker Mark Zietlow alertly picked up the ball and went on to score the third goal for St. Olaf.

The Concordia defense and the entire Cobber team looked on in amazement as the head referee allowed the goal to stand and give the Oles an insurmountable two-goal lead with 50 seconds remaining in the game.

After being outshot 15-2 in the first half, Concordia rallied to play well in the final period. For the game, the Cobbers were outshot 23-6.

Concordia goalkeeper Brett Oestreich made nine saves, and St. Olaf goalie Eric Smith finished the game with four saves as he picked up his third win of the season.

Concordia will look to put an end to their winless skid when they play at Hamline on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4:00pm.
