Moorhead, Minn.-- A span of 1:00 soured the hopes of first year head coach Damian Koshnick in his coaching debut for Concordia. The Cobbers surrendered a pair of goals at the start of the second half and were never able to battle all the way back as they lost the 2005 season opener 5-2 to the University of Mary (N.D.).

Trailing 1-0 at half time, Concordia started the second period by taking the play to the Marauders. After Judd Mann fired a shot over the bar, the Cobbers appeared to have settled down from their opening half nerves and in form to explode into the final period. Disaster struck for the Cobbers less than five minutes later when Lubomir Djurovuic scored the first of his three goals in the half when he headed home a cross from a corner kick taken by Nenad Todorovic. Todorovic, the catalyst to the Marauder offense, finished the game with a total of four assists.

Djurovic put U-Mary up by three goals exactly one minute later. He was able to outrun the Cobber defense on a loose ball and slotted home a shot past Concordia goalkeeper Brett Oestreich.

Concordia cut the lead to within two when Chase Hegarty scored his first collegiate goal in his first game for the Cobbers. Hegarty took a pass from Caleb Husmann and lofted a shot over John Udland for the first goal of the year for Concordia.

Djurovic completed his second half hat trick when he was sent through the back of the Cobber defense on a pass from Todorovic and beat Oestreich on the breakaway.

Husmann scored the second goal of the game for Concordia from the penalty spot. He also set up the foul by shielding a Marauder off the ball in the penalty box. The defender then ran over Husmann to try and win the ball and was called for the foul.

Hussman's goal at 69:06 gave Concordia new life and they threatened to score several more times but were unable to get any closer.

Blake Trimmer finished off the scoring when he took a Todorovic pass and one-time the ball past Oestreich.

The Marauders outshot Concordia 22-10 and held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Oestreich made four saves for the Cobbers, while Udland turned aside two shots to pick up his first win of the season.

Concordia will turn around and play Simpson College on Saturday, September 3 at 2:00pm at Collegeville, Minn.

The Cobbers return home next Saturday when they host St. Scholastica on September 10 at 5:00pm.
