Riley McGlynn Named MIAC Player of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/19/10)--Cobber junior forward Riley McGlynn (Hampstead, N.C./Bozeman (Mont.) HS) was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. It is the second time this season that he has earned the award and third in his career. McGlynn scored all three of Concordia's goals in their two wins last week.

McGlynn had three goals and connected on 14 shots last week as CC ran its unbeaten streak to nine games and climbed into a tie for first place in the MIAC standings. During the last nine games Concordia is 8-0-1 and has gone from a team struggling to stay above .500 to one that is 11-3-1 and on the verge of clinching their first-ever conference playoff spot.

McGlynn scored both goals in the Cobbers’ 2-0 win over the Pipers on Wednesday and then backed that outstanding performance up by netting the game winner against St. Thomas in Concordia’s 1-0 victory over the Tommies on Saturday. The win vs. UST marked the first time that CC has beaten St. Thomas since 2000.

For the season McGlynn has 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. That point total is the second highest in program history and his goal total is also the second highest in school history. He is nine points away from breaking the school record in points for a single season.

McGlynn currently leads the MIAC in goals, assists and points.
