(10/02/07)--Concordia senior midfielder Matt Klein (Fergus Falls, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. It is the first time in his career that he has earned the weekly award and he becomes the first men's soccer player from Concordia to win the award since Oct. 16, 2001 when Kris Overby was named the Player of the Week. Overby is now an assistant coach for the team. Klein earned the award for scoring the game-winning goal in Concordia's historic victory over St. Mary's on Saturday. Klein's goal in the second half against the cardinals helped the Cobbers end a 35-game conference winless streak - a streak that dated back to Oct. 25, 2003 and totaled 3,200 playing minutes and 1,433 calendar days. Klein also helped the Cobber defense record only its second conference shutout in the past four seasons. Klein's goal was his second goal in consecutive games and brings his season point total to five. He entered the season with only five goals in his first three years and has two in 2007.
