Gameday Game Recap WINONA, Minn. (10/02/10)--Concordia scored a pair of goals 6:21 apart in the second half and went on to beat St. Mary's 2-1 in Winona on Saturday. The win pushes the Cobbers' unbeaten streak to six games and moves CC into second place in the conference standings. Concordia is now 8-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes with the Cobbers holding a 9-4 edge in shots in the first half. The second-half scoring spree erupted in the 54th minute when senior Alex Dahl scored his fifth goal of the season at 53:03. The scoring play started when CC defender Patrick Rundlett found midfielder Marco Riboli. Riboli then played the ball to Dahl who finished off his third goal in as many games. For Riboli it was team-leading seventh assist of the season and 31st of his career.
He is now five away from the No.2 spot on the Cobber all-time assist list. St. Mary's (2-9-1/0-4-0 MIAC) found the equalizer a little over five minutes later when Zach Palma beat CC goalie Peter Runquist for his second goal of the year at 58:36. Concordia response was quick and decisive. They took the restart and played the ball into the Cardinal end of the field. After winning an immediate corner kick, Jared Rice knocked home the game winner off of the corner taken by Philip Bruckbauer. Rice's goal at 59:24 was his fifth of the year and it was also his first game deciding goal of the season. The teams threatened but never scored in the final 30 minutes of play and Concordia was able to walk away with only their second win in Winona in the 24-game history of the series. The Cobbers outshot SMU 19-8 in total shots for the game and held a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Runquist stopped four shots to earn his seventh win of the year. Chris Williams made 10 saves in the losing effort. Concordia will return home after a four-game road trip and host Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
