Goalie Mads Schmidt and the rest of the Cobber defense posted their fourth straight shutout in the team's 1-0 win over Hamline.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/14/09)-- It took Concordia nine games to come up with a winning formula but since then the Cobbers have perfected the principle as they shutout Hamline 1-0 on Wednesday to win their sixth straight game.

It was the Cobbers' fifth straight MIAC win and fourth straight shutout. It is the first time since the MIAC championship season of 1996 Concordia has won five straight conference games. It is also the first time since the 2001 season they have recorded four straight shutouts. The Cobbers are now 8-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The five conference wins is the most since 2001 when the team went 6-4 in league play.

In the six-game winning streak Concordia has only allowed two goals and has discovered that a great defense will keep any team in any game. The Cobbers' put their new-look "no goal patrol" on display in St. Paul as they held Hamline to only five shots on goal and 11 total shots.

The Cobbers offense was carrying the attack to the Pipers' as well as CC put up 25 total shots and outshot HU 25-11. Concordia also had 13 shots on goal but needed to go to the second half to finally get on the board. After holding the bulk of the play in the first half and carrying an 11-4 edge in shots heading into the second period, Cobber freshman Kristian Reiersgord put CC up 1-0 with a goal in the 77th minute. Reiersgord was in the right spot at the right time for the game winner. He was able to notch his second goal of the year after a shot by Riley NcGlynn hit the post and came right back to Reiersgord. He calmly slotted the ball into the net to put Concordia up 1-0 at the 76:46 mark.

That would be all senior co-captain goalie Mads Schmidt and the rest of the defense would need as they blanketed the Piper offense for the entire 90 minutes. Schmidt finished with five saves to pick up his fifth shutout of the season. Hamline goalie Zach Nelson was called on to make 12 saves.

Concordia will return home to put their winning streak on the line when they face non-conference opponent Jamestown College on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
