ST. PETER, Minn. (9/20/09)-- For the second straight conference game Concordia squandered a one-goal halftime lead and lost by one. On Sunday the Cobbers scored a pair of goals in the first seven minutes against Gustavus but gave up two goals in the second half and fell 3-2 to the Gusties. On Wednesday, the Cobbers held a 1-0 lead against Macalester and lost 2-1 and then on Sunday CC had a 2-1 lead over Gustavus and fell 3-2. In both games Concordia gave up goals less than 15 minutes apart in the second period to fall by one. The loss is the fifth straight for Concordia with four of the five being by one goal. The Cobbers are now 2-5 and 0-3 in the MIAC. Gustavus is unbeaten in their last four games and moves to 4-1-2. They are now 2-0 on MIAC games. The game featured three goals in the first seven minutes of play. Bret Vander Streek got the Gusties on the board in the first minute of the game. His goal at :57 seconds was his third of the season. The teams then played the next 51 minutes without scoring a goal. The Gusties seized the game starting at 57:55 when Mark Adams scored the first of his two goals in the game. Adams then added the game winner at 71:12. Gustavus had the advantage in all statistical categories. The Gusties outshot Concordia 19-7 in totals shots and 12-3 in shots on goal. The Cobbers will play a non-conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 23 when they play at the University of Bismarck at 6 p.m.
