Gameday Game Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/01/08)-- Six minutes and 36 seconds was all the stood between Concordia and their second straight multiple-goal conference victory on Wednesday at St. Olaf. However, the Oles had other ideas as they spoiled the winning streak by getting a late goal in regulation and then another with 1:32 left in the second overtime to come away with a 3-2 win.

For the second straight game the Cobber offense put up a crooked number on the board, but unlike Saturday against St. Mary's when the CC defense held the Cardinal offense off the board, Concordia allowed two goals in the second half to force the extra sessions and then one more in the second 10-minute sudden death period. The loss drops CC to 4-6-0 on the season. Concordia is now 1-4-0 in the MIAC. The Oles end a two-game losing streak and improve to 6-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference.

Concordia started out the scoring in the first half when Justin Foss netted his team-leading fifth goal of the year at 36:07. The goal came after the Cobbers had multiple chances to score but were unable to find the net. Marco Riboli and Philip Bruckbauer were credited with the assists on the play. For Riboli it was his league-leading eighth assist of the year.

CC would take the lead into the break but then allow a goal less than 13 minutes into the second half. Nate Swenson tied the game at 1-1 at 57:28 when he scored his second goal of the season. The game would stay even for the next 12 minutes before Kyle Quimby scored his first goal of the year for Concordia. Holding onto the 2-1 lead, the Cobbers would keep the Oles off the board until the final seven minutes of the contest. St. Olaf sophomore John Zietlow came up with a pair of goals that woould sway the games' outcome for good. He hit his first long-range shot at 83:24 to tie the game at 2-2 and send the two teams into overtime. He then ended the contest just 1:32 before the game would have ended in a 2-2 draw. Zietlow now has a conference-leading 10 goals on the season.

The two teams mustered plenty of offense in the game. Concordia and St. Olaf combined for 37 totals shots and 16 shots on goal. The Oles outshot the Cobbers 21-16 in overall shots and 10-6 in shots on goal. Concordia goalie Mads Schmidt made six saves and Ole goalie Kevin Friede stopped four shots to earn his third win of the season.

Concordia will return home to host St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
