Gameday Game Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/21/08)--Concordia played its best game of the season on Sunday, but unfortunately gave up late goals in each half and lost 2-1 to Carleton  in Northfield. The loss is the fourth straight for the Cobbers who drop to 3-5-0 on the season. The Knights, the defending MIAC co-champions win for the third straight game and remain unbeaten in 2008 as they improve to 7-0-1 overall and  2-0-1 in conference play.

Concordia strung 90 solid minutes of soccer on the board and were almost rewarded for their outstanding play. The teams were tied until the final 10 minutes of the game when Carleton scored the eventual game-winner at 82:47. CC conceded a free kick just outside the penalty area and were punished for the ill-timed foul. The Knights placed the ball in the box where it was headed twice by Jack Boller. Tim Willis then cleaned up the bouncing ball by putting home his fifth goal of the year.

The goal came just over 20 minutes after Concordia tied the game. CC senior Justin Foss manufactured his second goal of the season by turning his defender from 15 yards outside of goal and then pounding home the goal past the Carleton goalie.

The Knights started the scoring at the end of the first period. The Cobbers allowed a goal with 1:12 left to go in the first half which gave Carleton a boost heading into the break. Knight junior Lyndon DeSalvo was able to collect a through ball from Ryan Cammarota and loft a shot over Concordia goalie Mads Schmidt who was closing in on DeSalvo.

After being outshot 9-1 in the first half, the Cobbers went back-and-forth with the undefeated Knights in the second 45 minutes and were only outshot 8-5. For the game Carleton held a 17-6 advantage in overall shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Schmidt came up with his best game of the year as he made several key saves for the Cobbers. He finished the game with seven saves. Carleton goalie Pete Semmer stopped two shots to earn his sixth win of the season.

Concordia will have almost a full week off before returning to conference action. The Cobbers will head down to Winona to take on St. Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
