Gameday Game Recap:

DULUTH, Minn. (9/16/08)-- Like the guy in the commercial that travels the world in search of the internet, so too is the Cobber men's team in search of the net. For the third straight game, Concordia failed to score a goal and fell to a more opportune team.  On Tuesday, CC  missed several chances in the first half and lost 2-0 to St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Concordia's scoreless streak has now reached  304 minutes as they look for the goal that will get them back on track after they won three straight games at the start of the year.

Concordia came out against the Saints and took to the attacking end.  They were able to get opportunities from their hard work and passing game. The best chance of the whole game for Concordia came in the opening 15 minutes when freshman forward Riley McGlynn turned the St. Scholastica defense and found his way along the endline. He then passed the ball out in front of the goal to an open Justin Foss. Foss' shot unfortunately went right at Saints goalie Zach Schneider who made the save.

In the first half the two teams were virtually even on the scoresheet. Scholastica held a 10-8 in overall shots and a 6-5 edge in shots in goal but the Cobbers had the better of the quality of chances.

The game turned in the Saints favor in the 62nd minute when Concordia was on the wrong side of an unfortunate oversight. One of the CC defenders cleared the ball out of the Cobber penalty area. However his clearing attempt hit the arm of one of the Saints players who took advantage of the no call and proceeded to put the ball in the net to give Scholastica a 1-0 lead. Neither the referee nor the alternate referee was in line to see the hand ball and CC found themselves down by one at the 61:30 mark.

The Saints added to their lead less than 13 minutes later when an attacker got loose on the right side and whipped a ball into the penalty area which was met by Brandon Stemwedel who headed home his first goal of the season.

For the game, St. Scholastica outshot Concordia 22-12 in overall shots and 14-8 in shots on goal. The Saints also held the edge in corner kicks as they took nine corners to the Cobbers' six. Concordia goalie Mads Schmidt made 11 saves in the game, while Schneider made eight saves to pick up the shutout.

The Cobbers will return to MIAC play when they travel to Northfield to take on Carleton on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
