Gameday Game Recap:
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/27/07)-- Concordia gave up a goal in each half and fell 2-0 to St. John's on Saturday in the season finale for both teams. The two-goal loss is the first for the Cobbers in their five home conference games in the 2007 season.
The Cobbers finish the season with a 2-8-0 mark in MIAC play which is two more wins than the team had in the past three seasons combines. CC ends the year with a 3-13-1 overall mark. The Johnnies end their season with a 7-6-2 overall mark and a 5-4-1 record in MIAC play.
SJU controlled the middle of the field throughout most of the game. They were able to set up their front line with chances but the Johnnie forwards weren't able to get the ball past Cobber goalie Mads Schmidt. St. John's finally got on the board at the 32:40 mark when Tyler Kodet scored the first of his two goals in the game off of an assist from Brian Horst.
The first period did not have very many shots for either team as Concordia held a 3-2 advantage in overall shots.
The second half took a more offensive turn. Both teams were able to find space on the wings and then serve balls into the penalty area for scoring opportunities. In the second half, the teams combined for 14 shots with SJU holding a 10-4 edge.
The best scoring chance in the game for the Cobbers came off of the foot of reserve Ryan Elling. Elling controlled a cross and hit a shot that was partially deflected by a SJU defender and then hit the goal post before caroming out of play.
St. John's put the game out of reach in the 90th minute when Kodet one-timed his second goal of the game at the 89:17 mark.
For the afternoon, SJU outshot Concordia 12-7 in overall shots and 7-1 in shots on goal. Schmidt had five saves in goal for CC, while Sean Hasselstrom made the one stop he was called upon to make.
