Gameday Game Recap:
WHITEWATER, Wis. (10/21/07)-- For the first 50 minutes of the Cobbers' game with regionally-ranked UW-Whitewater it seemed as if all the hard luck of the season would finally reverse itself and pay off for the Cobbers. Concordia had just scored the game-tying goal against the Warhawks in the 46th minute and CC was battling a team that hadn't lost in 13 straight games toe-to-toe on their home field.
Unfortunately, regulation soccer games last a full 90 minutes and by the time the dust had settled, Concordia had allowed five unanswered goals in a span of 35 minutes and lost 6-1 to UW-Whitewater (14-1-2) on Sunday.
Concordia (2-12-1) was able to hole their own with the high-powered Warhawks throughout the entire first half of play and only trailed 1-0 at the break.
The game took an even better turn for the Cobbers in the 46th minute when CC was awarded a penalty kick - only their second spot kick of the season. Senior Ryan Albrecht knocked home the penalty kick and tied the game at 1-1 with 44 minutes to play. For Albrecht, the newly converted forward, it was his first collegiate goal.
The wheels started to come off the Cobbers' cart in the 52nd minute when freshman Julius Sekyi scored the first of his three straight goals. Sekyi would add scores in the 64th and 70th minute of play to put the game out of reach. Whitewater then added two more goals in the final five minutes of play to push the final tally to 6-1.
Cobber goalie Mads Schmidt made five saves in the game, and Warhawk keeper Kevin Spry was also credited with five saves.
Concordia was outshot 20-9 in overall shots for the game and 10-6 in shots on goal.
The Cobbers will finish off the 2007 season when they host Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. and then St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.
