Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/25/06)-- For the first 35 minutes of the Cobbers' game against the University of Mary on Wednesday, it looked if the non-conference magic had returned and Concordia was going to be able to continue with their success outside the MIAC. They were controlling the tempo of play, attacking the net with conviction and not allowing the Marauders to build any kind of offense.

That 35-minute roll took officially 5:25 to erase as Mary scored a pair of goals just before the break and went on to edge the Cobbers 3-2 in Moorhead.

Marauder reserve forward Justin Foss scored all three goals for Mary and it proved to be too much for the Cobbers as they fell to 4-11-1 on the year. The Marauders win for only the second time all season and improve to 2-12-1.

Concordia go on the board first when freshman Mergim Vllahiu tapped in a rebound shot that was dropped in his lap after the Mary goalie misplayed a free kick from 30 yards outside the goal.

The Cobbers peppered the Marauder net in the opening half of play, outshooting Mary 12-3. That advantage came tumbling down at the 36:27 mark when Foss collected a quick throw-in from Matt Binegar and walked passed the Cobber defense and tucked the ball inside the post to tie the game at 1-1.

Foss gave Mary a 2-1 lead less than six minutes later when he took another through ball and waltzed in all alone and slide the ball past Cobber keeper Mads Schmidt.

Concordia came up with the equalizer after the break when Brandon Root alertly played a free kick from outside the penalty area very quickly and caught the Mary defense before they could set up a wall and as the Marauder keeper was trying to organize his defense.

The tie lasted less than 10 minutes as Foss struck again. This time he took a feed from Binegar inside the penalty area and slotted the ball past Schmidt.

For the game, the Cobbers outshot the Marauders 22-11 and held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Mary goalie Ryan Skay made 11 saves to earn the win, while Schmidt came up with six stops in the loss.

Concordia will finish out the 2006 season when they host league-leading St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.
