Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/14/06)-- The good news for Concordia on Saturday against perennial league power  Macalester was that the Cobbers were able score two goals and stop their conference scoreless streak. Unfortunately, the struggling Macalester offense picked the wrong time to break out of their slump. When all the dust had settled at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex, the Scots had come away with a 4-2 victory.

The loss keeps Concordia winless in conference play and drops their MIAC record to 0-7-1. Overall, the Cobbers are now 3-8-1 on the season. Macalester stops their three-game losing streak and stays in the hunt for an MIAC playoff spot. The Scots are now 4-3-0 in league play and 7-5-1 overall.

Concordia came out in the opening 20 minutes and looked like they were ready to pull off the upset as they had several good scoring chances and were able to post multiple shots at the Macalester net.

The Scots however took advantage of their opportunities and scored the opening goal at 14:35. They would add another in the 33rd minute to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Cobber junior Brandon Root pulled Concordia to within one goal when he netted his fifth goal of the year less than nine minutes into the second period.

Concordia was never able to get the equalizer and Macalester reestablished their two-goal cushion at 67:40 when Jake Rocke scored the second of his two goals on the day. That goal proved to be the deciding factor in the game. The Scots added to their lead at 78:32 when Mike Samuelson scored his second goal of the year.

Cobber freshman Lane Muzzana scored the second Concordia goal when he finished off a pass from senior co-captain Caleb Husmann. Muzzana's goal at 81:30 was his second of the season.

For the game, Macalester and Concordia traded chances but the Scots were able to hold a 22-15 advantage in shots. Both goalies made seven saves in the game. Macalester's Ryan Palmer made just enough stops to earn his fifth win of the year.

Concordia will turn around and host Upper Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. in a non-conference affair. Concordia will return to MIAC action when they play at Carleton on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
