Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/10/06)-- Once again Concordia was able to create chances on goal but, for the sixth straight time in conference play, the Cobbers came away empty handed and lost. Augsburg was able to make the most of their opportunities and handed Concordia a 3-0 loss in Moorhead on Tuesday.

The loss keeps the Cobbers winless in the MIAC. CC is now 0-6-1 in league and continues to search for their first league win in over two years. Overall, Concordia slides to 3-7-1 on the year. With the win, the Auggies move to 3-1-2 in conference play and 11-1-2. The eleven wins are the most for Augsburg since the 1980 season.

On a day when the weather came out on top, Augsburg opened the scoring in the first half against the wind when Alec Rabine fired a shot that found the right corner of the net on its way past Cobber keeper Mads Schmidt.

Concordia's best chance of the opening half came off the foot of junior Kwaku Opoku. After the ball was played in from the wing, Opoku was able to get a shot off from inside the penalty spot but his chance went over the net.

The game swung in the Auggies' favor less than two minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick. After Rabine converted the spot kick to notch his second goal of the game, Augsburg was able to settle back and play with a two-goal lead.

The best opportunity of the game for Concordia came in the final 30 minutes when wing midfielder Caleb Hussman beat his defender and hit a low shot that Auggie goalie Pascual Venter stopped. The subsequent rebound found Genna Patselov who hit a shot that was on net and past Venter but was stopped by a recovering defender.

Augsburg held a 17-12 edge in shots after being outshot 10-6 in the first half.

Schmidt made five saves for Concordia, while Venter continues his all-conference campaign by stopping seven shots and picking up his 11th shutout of the year.

Concordia continues their three-game home stand when they host Macalester on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
