Game Recap:

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/07/06)-- Concordia tried to make a withdrawal from their scoring ATM but were only greeted with the message that their account had insufficient funds. Unfortunately, the Cobbers hade made a six-goal withdrawal on Thursday against UW-Superior and now the account was left bare when Concordia needed to post a score in conference play.

The lack of finishing punch cost the Cobbers as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Bethel in Arden Hills, Minn. on Saturday.

The scoreless 90 minutes wasn't for a lack of chances. For the second straight game, the CC offense was able to produce quality opportunities and post over 12 shots in the game. Concordia had 14 shots and six on the net but none were able to beat Royal keeper Nick Kantor, who made six saves to earn the shutout.

The loss keeps Concordia winless in league play and drops their record to 0-5-1. CC is now 3-6-1 overall and sees their one-game winning streak go by the wayside.

The only goal that either team was able to produce came in the 51st minute on a play that looked harmless from beginning to end. Bethel defender Peter Halverson flighted a ball that looked like it was half cross-half shot but in the end it was all goal as it eluded Concordia goalie Mads Schmidt on the way to the back of the net.

The best chance for Concordia came in the waning stages of the game. Junior forward Kwaku Opoku was able to track down a ball on the Royal back line and make a move to free himself for a clear shot at the net. His offering, however, hit the inside of the post and rolled helplessly away to seal the Cobbers' scoreless fate.

Opoku had six shots in the game to lead all players. Matt Klein was the only other CC player to finish the game with more than one shot. He recorded three shots with one on net.

Bethel finished the game with a narrow 15-14 edge in shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Cobbers turned the table in corner kicks as they had nine to the Royals' six.

Schmidt recorded eight saves in holding the Royals to the lone goal. Kantor picked up his second shutout of the year after stopping the six Cobber shots on goal.

Concordia will return home for the next three games. CC will open up the three-game homestand when they play Augsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
