Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (09/26/06)-- Concordia had several opportunities that just didn't quite develop, allowed a pair of goals just before the break and lost 4-0 to regionally-ranked Hamline in a conference game played in Moorhead, Minn. on Tuesday.

The Cobbers were able to get off 11 shots but were never able to come with a key strike on goal throughout the entire 90 minutes. The loss drops the Cobbers to 0-3-1 in the MIAC and 2-4-1 overall. The Pipers, who entered the game as the No.9-ranked team in the West Region in the latest NSCAA poll, improve to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.

The game turned in the final 13 minutes of the first half. After playing the opening 30 minutes in a game that featured Concordia possessing the ball and Hamline determined to make quick strikes at the Cobber goal, it was the Pipers that broke on top first and took control of the first momentum change. Hamline forward Jacob Helling was able to get free from the Cobber defense and slam home his first of two goals on the afternoon.

Fueled by the first goal, Hamline started to attack on a more consistent basis, while Concordia was able to the majority of their offensive work once they had possession in the midfield.

The telling blow came at the 42:07 mark when Elvi Gacaj finished off a crossing pass from Evan Falon to give the Pipers the 2-0 lead.

Directly after the break, Hamline added a third when Helling scored his second goal of the game at 48:28. He was able to beat the Cobber defense down the right side and turn the corner to fire a shot into the net.

Concordia then went on a 15-minute binge where they had several opportunities to connect on a scoring chance but were never able to get in the right place at the right time.

They posted nine shots in the second half alone and were able to get solid chances from just outside the penalty area.

Hamline was able to tack on a fourth goal in the final five minutes. With Concordia pushing forward to try and get a goal, Piper forward Matt Warhol was able to get behind the CC defense on a breakaway and finish off his fourth goal of the year.

Cobber goalie Mads Schmidt played another stellar game in goal. He shut down several breakaway opportunities in the second half and finished the game with five saves.

Hamline keeper Andrew Clement turned aside three shots to pick up his fourth win of the year.

The final statistical tally had Hamline outshooting Concordia 20-11 and the Pipers held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

Concordia will play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. The next Cobber home game is Thursday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. against UW-Superior.
