Drew Dvorak was the big story for the Cobbers in the tournament. Dvorak, an all-conference honoree as a freshman, fired a 77 in the final round and finished in eighth place in the individual standings. His three-day total of 220 (72-71-77) was only seven shots out of a top five finish in a meet that was dominated by NCAA Division I and II golfers. Last year Dvorak shot a 232 at the same meet, and steadily improved throughout the year until peaking with a sixth place finish at the MIAC Championship Meet. The only other Cobber golfer to finish in the top 30 was senior Mike Lundberg. Lundberg fell three places in the final round after shooting a 77. He was tied for 20th heading into the final round, but settled for a 23rd place finish with a final total of 229 (74-78-77). Rounding out the Cobber gold team were Ryan Walsh 234 (83-77-74), Sam Frick 235 (76-79-80) and Josh Jones 248 (78-87-83). The Concordia maroon team was led by Peter Krier who shot a consistent 245 (81-82-82). The most dramatic news of the day for the maroon squad was made by Tyler Bormann who was looking at a score in the middle 70’s until the final two holes of the day. Doing his best imitation of Jean Van de Velde in the 1999 Open Championship, Bormann posted a pair of 8’s on his scorecard for the final two holes and finished at 246 (86-76-84). Next up for Concordia is the University of North Dakota Invitational. The Cobbers will travel to Grand Forks on Sept. 26-27 to compete in the tournament held at King’s Walk Golf Club.
