MIAC Championship Meet Homepage ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The number "79" can be associated with many good things. It can be good if it is your score in a football or soccer game or if it is attached to the word million when discussing your net worth. Unfortunately for the Concordia men's golf team, 79 will go down as one of their least favorite numbers. That is because all three of the top Cobber golfers fired a 79 on the final day of the MIAC Championship Meet, and watched as the team slid from second place after day one into a tie for fourth in the final team competition. Concordia started the final day at the 2005 MIAC Men's Golf Championship Meet in second place only two shots out of the lead and looking to push day 1 leader St. John's for the overall team title. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, they stumbled from the gate and shot a 314 in the second day and finished in a tie for fourth place. Concordia's final total of 617 is 11 strokes better than last year's sixth-place score of 628. The Johnnies followed up their opening day 301 with a meet-best 295 and captured its second consecutive MIAC championship. The only good news for Concordia in the final round was that sophomore Drew Dvorak finished in eighth place and earned his second straight MIAC All-Conference honor. Dvorak was leading the tournament after the first day and then shot a 79 in the final round to finish with a two-day total of 151. That total is one stroke better than last year's mark of 151 when he finished in a tie for sixth place. Two other Cobber golfers started the day in the top 11 of the meet but fell out of contention after shooting the dreaded 79. Ryan Walsh was in eighth place to start the round but fell to 12th with his final score of 154 (75-79). Mike Lundberg was in 11th place when the day began but shot a 79 and fell back to a tie for 14th with a final score of 156. Sam Frick, who coincidentally shot a 79 in the first round, fire a 77 on day two and also finished in a tie for 14th place. Travis Olson, the final member of Concordia's championship meet team, shot an 83 after coming home in 86 in the first round and finished in a tie for 39th. Concordia will complete its fall season when they participate in the Twin Cities Classic on Oct. 8-10. Final Results Location: Coon Rapids, Minn.
