MIAC Championship Meet Homepage

ST. PAUL, Minn.-- With one day to go at the 2005 MIAC Championship Meet, the Concordia men's golf team is poised to rewrite program history. The Cobbers finished the first day of the meet with a total team score of 303, only two shots behind day one leader St. John's.

If that wasn't good enough for head coach Troy Odegaard, Concordia sophomore Drew Dvorak is the top individual after firing an even-par 72.

It has been 24 years since Concordia has won the MIAC. The only time the Cobbers won a conference championship was back in 1981. Only one golfer in the history of the program has walked away with medalist honors at the championship meet. In 1981, Scott Steinbach fired a 156 to win the tournament by a single stroke over teammate Tim Tinglestad.

Four of the five Concordia golfers finished in the top 20 after the first day. Concordia freshman Ryan Walsh is in eighth place after firing a 75. He is followed by Mike Lundberg who shot a 77 and is tied for 11th. Sam Frick rounds out the Cobber top 20 crew. Frick carded a 79.

The fifth member of the team, Travis Olson, shot an 86 and is 43rd.

The Cobbers will finish off the meet on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
