(10/03/08)-- For the second straight meet Tom Sederquist (So, Moorhead HS) pushed the pace late race to run away with the victory. Sederquist's 26:08 on the tough Jimmie Invitational course was enough to beat 2nd place Dickinson State finisher Salvador Bautista by 15 seconds. Indeed, Sederquist took four of Dickinson State's 2007 NAIA national cross country qualifiers down. Just four weeks ago he lost to two of the Dickinson's runners at the Black Hills meet in Spearfish, SD. After beating some outstanding opponents, the question is, can Sederquist be in the mix at the MIAC Championship and have a shot at qualifying for Nationals? "Tom's running is going extremely well right now, as is the whole team" commented Coach Garrick Larson. "We are starting to see the effect of our last four weeks of solid and methodical training. The next two and a half weeks will be the hardest training of our season in preparation for the MIAC Championship on November 1st. Hopefully, our training will lead to the improvement I think our young team is capable of." "I'm really surprised about Tom's progress. He's come a long way in the last month. Yes, I think it is possible for Tom to be in the top 15 at MIAC," admitted Larson. Concordia has had only 8 other All-MIAC performers in the history of the program, most recently, Nick Myran in 2005. "Regionals is still a long way off, 6 weeks, so a little tough to predict. We've got one of the toughest regions in the nation, so advancing to Nationals would be a tremendous feat for any runner. Ask me again in a month", smiled Larson. The Cobbers finished 2nd of 5 teams with 53 points behind team winner Dickinson State (23 points). Early in the race the Cobbers were well back in 4th as a team behind Minot State and Bemidji, but used their patient running style to master the field over the last two miles. "I'm really pleased with how intelligent our young guys are running. They are young, but not committing the stupid tactical mistakes that are typical of Freshmen and Sophomores," added Larson. The Cobbers travel to the Crown Invitational in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota on October 18 for their last tune up before the November 1st MIAC Championship at Como Park in St. Paul.
