Meet Recap

SPEARFISH, S.D. (9/13/08)-- The Cobber men's cross country team finished fourth out of seven teams at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Spearfish, S. D. on Saturday.

Tom Sederquist (So, Moorhead, Minn.) led the way for the Cobbers with a 21:01 to finish 7th individually. But the story of the day was Michael Dunn (So, Oak Grove, Fargo, N.D.) emerging as the Cobber No. 2 runner. In the 2007 cross country campaign Dunn was plagued on-and-off with an injury and ran inconsistently. Dunn made a bigger commitment in preparing for the season with better summer mileage which is already showing dividends. Dunn ran 22:57 for 6K in clearly his best collegiate cross country race.

Head Coach Garrick Larson commented, "Michael has come a long way since last year. He struggled with the injury in the 2007 cross country season, but has regained his health and is running well. Last spring Dunn was a key member on the track and field team's 4x400-meter relay team that ran a 3:17.70, splitting under 50.0. But Dunn's greatest asset is his great range. Dunn can run competitively in the 200 meter all the way through the 8k in cross country."

The Cobbers compete next Friday, Sept. 19 at the Ron Pynn Invitational hosted by UND at the Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks, N.D.
