MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/29/08)-- Concordia opened the 2008 season by competing against cross-town rival MSU Moorhead in a dual meet held at Johnson Park in Moorhead. Despite falling 39-19 to the Dragons, the Cobbers came away with several positive spins from the opening meet of the year.

A year ago the Cobber men's cross country team was perfect scored by MSU-Moorhead in the opening meet of the season (15 to 49). This fall the Cobber harrier men closed the gap to 19 to 39 with strong performances from sophomore Tom Sederquist and junior Mike Reponen. Sederquist took the race out hard with eventual winner Kyle Eckhoff (unattached) and finished 3rd overall in 16:10.2 over the 5K (3.11 mile) course. Reponen, who ran over 900 miles this summer, was the Cobber No.2 runner finishing 12th overall in 17:50.1.

The Concordia men had three juniors, three sophomores, and one freshmen in the team's top seven as the Cobbers are extremely young overall. "We've really got no place to go but up with this young group. I'm expecting improvement across the board from all our runners this season," said Coach Larson. The team also feature a cadre of local talent including five runners from Moorhead High School, plus a Fargo North and a Fargo Oak Grove athlete.
