For Immediate Release:

Cobbers Hire D-G-F Head Coach Tony Reno
Concordia-Moorhead head football coach Terry Horan announced on Tuesday that current Dilworth-Glyndon Felton High School head football coach Tony Reno has been hired as an assistant coach in charge of the defensive line. Reno has been the head coach at D-G-F for the past two seasons, compiling a 13-8 record during that time and earning Heart O’Lakes Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2004. Reno will replace Ben Holm who left to pursue a full-time position in the business community.

“I am extremely excited about the addition of Tony to the staff,” commented Horan. “He is a very knowledgeable coach who will be a great addition to an already outstanding staff.”

Before becoming the head coach at D-G-F, Reno served as an assistant coach for the Rebels for ten years. He served as the defensive coordinator for nine of those ten seasons.

Reno was a two-year letter-winner in football at UM-Crookston. He was the captain of the 1988 squad for the Golden Eagles and was named to the all-conference and all-region teams in 1988. Reno then earned his undergraduate degree from MSU Moorhead in 1992.

After graduating from MSU Moorhead, Reno took a position as an assistant coach at Red Wing High School. He was the defensive coordinator for Red Wing in 1993 before moving on to accept the assistant coaching job at D-G-F.

“Tony’s greatest asset is his ability to get the most out of his athletes and the way he cares for every player he mentors,” added Horan. “ I am looking forward to having the opportunity for our Concordia student/athletes to experience the same kind of care and respect he has shown to his players at D-G-F.”

Reno will continue to teach mathematics at D-G-F while serving as assistant coach for the Cobbers. He joins current Concordia assistant coaches Dale Hertel and Dan Kostich who both teach at high schools in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
