MOORHEAD, Minn.-- On a perfect day for Homecoming, 15th-ranked Concordia treated Cobber alumni, fans and friends to their first overall game of the season as they blanked Gustavus 30-0. The victory is Concordia's 13th straight MIAC win and keeps the Cobbers 2005 sheet clean at 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Concordia senior kicker Brian Halverson also treated the Homecoming fans to a pair of program records. Halverson knocked home a 45-yard field goal at the end of the first half to set a record for longest field goal in a game. He also totaled six points, which brings his career total to 200 and ties head coach Terry Horan for most career points.

The Concordia defense put the clamps on a struggling Gustavus (0-5/0-3 MIAC) offense, allowing only 153 yards of total offense. That included only 21 rushing yards and a mere nine yards of total offense in the fourth quarter. The shutout is the first for Concordia since the last regular season game of the 2004 season when they shut down Menlo by the identical score of 30-0.

The Cobber offense once again did most of the damage on the ground. Concordia racked up 259 rushing yards against a defense that was only allowing 111 yards on the ground entering the game. The Cobbers finished with 364 total offensive yards. That marks the fourth straight game that Concordia has gained over 330 yards.

Concordia had eight different players with positive rushing numbers. Freshman Cory Johnson led the Cobbers with a game-high 69 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Kevin Williamson had 63 yards on 12 carries. Tyler Anderson had a solid game in the backfield for the offense. He rushed for 39 yards on only six carries. His 6.5 yards per carry average was highlighted by a sharp, cutback 19-yard run that produced the Cobbers' third touchdown. Anderson also had one reception for 34 yards, which was the games longest play from scrimmage.

The Cobber offense was also more balanced then it has been all season. For the first time all season Concordia surpassed 100-yard mark through the air. The Cobber quarterback tandem of Brian Schumacher and freshman Jesse Nelson went 8-for-18 for 105 yards.

Another trend that plagued Concordia in the first three games of the year, never materialized against Gustavus. The Cobbers did not turn over the ball against the Gusties, after entering the game having coughed the ball up eight times in the first three games.

Defensively, Matt Kleber had his best game as a Cobber. He had a team-high 9.0 tackles, including 1.0 sacks and 1.0 tackles for a loss. He also came up with one of the three Concordia interceptions. Tanner Radermacher had one interception to go along with 5.0 tackles. Ben Aakre finished off the interception trio by coming up with his second interception of the year on an athletic play in the second quarter that set up Halvorson's record-breaking field goal.

Tyler Ledyard was held without a sack for the first time this season, but was picked up by a Concordia defense that sacked Gustavus quarterback Jordan Stolp three times. Besides Kleber, Cody Martinson and Adam Peterson also recorded a quartrback sack.

Stolp was pressured all day long and finished with 199 passing yards. He was 12-for-29 and threw three interceptions. Junior wide receiver Kerry Zajicek was the top Gustavus offensive weapon. He finished with six receptions and 51 receiving yards.

Nick David was the top performer for the Gustavus defense. He had a game-high 10.5 tackles, one sack and 1.0 tackles for a loss.

Concordia will play at Hamline on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 before returning home to host nationally-ranked St. John's on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00pm.
